How Drew Barrymore Handled Hugh Grant's Criticism of Her Singing

Drew Barrymore is not letting Hugh Grant's comments about her singing skills get her down. The actress and talk show host responded to Grant's remarks with a playful video on Instagram, where she sang a few lines from their movie "Music and Lyrics" and joked about his name.

Grant, who co-starred with Barrymore in the 2007 rom-com as a washed-up pop star who teams up with an aspiring songwriter (Barrymore) to create a hit song, recently answered some of the web's most searched questions for Wired. One of them was whether he actually sang in the movie, to which he replied:

> I do sing. But I'm auto-tuned beyond belief. Actually, that's not true. I'm auto-tuned a bit but not as much as some. Drew Barrymore was in that film with me and I don't think she'd mind me saying her singing is just horrendous. I've heard dogs bark better than she sings. But having said that, once they tuned her up she sounded way better than me because she's got heart and voice and rock 'n' roll. Whereas I sounded like Julie Andrews and I meant to be kind of rock 'n' roll as well.

Barrymore, who is known for her upbeat and positive personality, took Grant's criticism in stride and posted a video on Instagram where she sang part of "Way Back Into Love", the song they performed together in the movie. She used a hairbrush as a microphone and smiled throughout the clip, which she captioned "#SingForHughGrant JOIN ME".

At the end of the video, she addressed Grant directly and said: "Oh Hugh...Bert. Hubert. That's for you."

The video has received over 26 thousand likes and hundreds of comments from fans who praised Barrymore for her adorable response and her singing voice.

Some of them wrote:

- "You are so cute! And you have an amazing voice!"

- "You're awesome Drew! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!"

- "Hugh Grant is wrong! You have a beautiful voice and you're such a joy to watch!"

Barrymore and Grant have remained friends since working together on "Music & Lyrics", which was a box office success and received mostly positive reviews from critics.

In 2014, Barrymore told Entertainment Weekly that she loved working with Grant because he was "so funny" and "so self-deprecating".

She also revealed that they had instant chemistry on screen because they both had similar senses of humour.

She said:

> We just got each other immediately. We're both very sarcastic people but we also have this sweetness about us that comes out sometimes when we're acting together.

Grant also spoke fondly of Barrymore in an interview with People magazine in 2016, where he called her "a genius" and "a very good kisser".

He said:

> She was very special. She was very real — there’s nothing fake about Drew — but also wild.

He added:

> She’s one of those people who can cry at will — it’s extraordinary — but then can be incredibly funny at will too.

Despite his recent comments about her singing abilities, it seems that Grant still has a lot of respect and admiration for Barrymore.

And Barrymore has shown that she can handle his jokes with grace and humour.

She has also proven that she doesn't need anyone's approval to sing her heart out.
